Women in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction are doing the heavy lifting of coming to terms with the consequences of their behaviors and actions.  Daily, they must deal with the guilt and shame.

Some women wonder if they will ever get their lives back, what those lives will look like, and if they will ever be able to fully recover and move away from their pasts.

Working with women in recovery is a hopeful endeavor, always; teaching women that they are not their pasts, they are worthy of happiness, and it is possible to be whole again. This is the reason The Sisterhood of the Crooked Crown established The Miracle on the Mountain Women in Recovery Speaker Meeting and Banquet.

We want a warm, safe place for women to hear a message of recovery from one of their own, break bread with each other, and dress up for the occasion.  We intend for these women to come together and see each other on the other side of their work; to get a glimpse, for a little while, of the beauty and grace they still possess. Sometimes, we have to demonstrate the loveliness of recovery.

We are reaching out to Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and recovery houses in Kern County and the surrounding areas.  We are organizing a dress drive for women who cannot afford a dress. And a portion of raised funds will be set aside for those who cannot afford a ticket.

We never really know what will touch someone in a way that will change their lives. But we do know that hope opens the door, so that we can see what may be possible, and we know that hope for each other’s success enriches us all.

Hope opens the way....
